It started off with a simple CD, with residents and care workers singing with glee.
St Bede’s COVID Christmas the title would be, the residents wanted not one, or two but three.
To share with their families and to remind them of thee.
Christmas was going to be hard this year, but what they could see,
Is there loved ones were happy and no one could disagree.
Secret Santa started a mystery it would be,
With care workers shaking presents,
Wondering ‘is that one for me?’
All were bought in and put under the tree,
But care workers were not to take them home until 20th December 2020.
The twelve days of Christmas were posted through the doors,
All the residents were intrigued to find out more,
Every day there was something new,
It left the residents thinking what more they could possibly do.
From quizzes through the letter box,
To mince pies with plenty of stock,
Singing in the gardens and keeping us entertained until 5 o’clock.
But it does not stop there because the care workers do come,
Oh, what good company they have become.
Santa’s COVID chocolate grotto
With ‘think different’ being their motto.
Candy canes, gingerbread sticks, chocolate, and festive fun,
For care workers enjoy and drink down in one.
Cupcakes were made ‘Making spirits bright’
For care workers only, they do deserve them, right?
But of course, there were some left over to resident’s delight
They were so happy to receive one, What a good end to their night.
A small gift to remember the year 2020, a pen that will last forever and ever,
‘When the world had to stay apart, we stayed together’.
Not only a pen but a bag of goodies too,
To show the care worker our appreciation for all that they do.
With sweets, chocolate and so much more,
We all stand together united to the core.
A Christmas surprise left the residents to question,
‘What are care support doing, Some sort of invention’?
All their photos where taken, with a mystery lurking within,
The residents tried to guess, but where would they begin?
The secret started to unravel as Vicki knew she would win,
The hearts of the residents with the gifts that lie within.
A blue bag, with socks, gloves, lip balm, sweets, and an activity pack,
But to top it all off a personalised bauble for their Christmas tree what could top that?
So, the residents had it, there was no more surprise,
Vicki was so happy with the look in their eyes.
All the emotion started to pour,
Christmas as we knew it, was once more.
You see its not about the gifts really, but the joy that we could bring.
To all the residents who were struggling within.
Facing Christmas alone was a scary thought,
All their families were utterly distraught.
But they were not alone you see, because Care support
Will always be here for them no matter the report.
