Across the schemes for Bedford we shared lots of poems, this was initially to mark Dignity today, we know that dignity is not only for our residents which of course is every single day! but for each other too and especially so during this pandemic. A couple of our team made their own poems and the coordinator at St Bedes had hers shared for the Higgins Trust in Bedford, who had requested pieces of writing relating to mental health.
The poems shared were about typical days for our roles but also frustrations of covid. I will share one which was put out for all our care workers at all of our schemes, especially written by our senior for our remarkable care workers who have battled on for nearly a year during this pandemic. Not all heroes wear capes but they do wear full ppe!
OUR CARE WORKER HERO’S
Thank you for devotion to duty,
for all your loving care.
For holding people’s hands,
when their families cannot be there.
For going into work, each day,
although you might feel scared.
Thank you for your gentle words,
to those for whom you care.
We like many others wish to say,
that you are doing amazingly well,
and when this is all over,
think of the tales you will have to tell!
Where carers like yourselves
hid their sorrow and sadness behind a smile,
and carried on helping others,
by always going that extra mile.
When you are feeling tired and weary,
at the end of a long hard day and you are just looking for a break,
remember you are a hero,
and not all heroes wear a cape.
And when you go to sleep tonight
And get some peace and rest,
know that you are appreciated, and today,
you made someone else’s day the best!
